If free range chickens are "illegal" in your area, make a chicken tractor. A family can get 3-5 eggs a day from 5 chickens in the peek of the laying season, middle spring until late summer. Eggs from your backyard are wayyyyy better for you than anything from the store. Also if you supplement the chickens' diet with flax seed you can make super omega 3 eggs. The omega 3 egg yolks are a great first food for your little ones too. Oh and if they are illegal in your town, go ahead and not listen crap.. :)
